As in all regions of Italy, pasta is one of our staple ingredients, and owner and head chef Toni Sale prepares fresh pasta made by hand every morning. Why not try our Sardinian pasta specialities - Malloreddos, Spaghetti Bottarga or Sardinian Ravioli.

Customers who wish to have bread with their meal can order some Pane Carasatu - typical Sardinian thin, crispy bread served simply with extra virgin olive oil and a little fresh rosemary. You can also sample this as a starter - Pane frattau - with fresh tomato sauce and Pecorino cheese.

Our speciality main courses include fresh sea bass cooked in a sea salt crust, swordfish with Vernaccia wine, wild boar with mirto sauce, which gives a wonderful sweet and sour flavour, and lamb cooked in vegetables with Cannonau., a traditional Sardinian red wine.

The vast majority of the ingredients we use, from the olive oil to the cheeses and breads, are imported directly from Sardinia. Fresh produce, like fish and vegetables, are bought daily from the market, and our blackboard menu changes every day, according to whatever is available.

At Pepe Sale we use many organic products and we do not use any genetically modified foods.

We also have an excellent selection of vegetarian dishes available, and we are happy to cater for people with special dietary requirements, by arrangement.

WINE LIST

The majority of the wines on our list are specially selected from individual Sardinian vineyards. These include a combination of crisp Sardinian whites and the more full-bodied reds. You probably will not have heard of most of them, but don't worry - our staff are here to help you choose the best wine to complement your meal.

Wines are competitively priced, starting at £13.50 for a bottle of Red or White Normanno with most bottles falling in the £15 to £25 price bracket, however, we have recently enlarged our wine list to offer an even more eclectic selection of some of the best wines Italy has to offer, including very special wines like the renowned "Super-Tuscan" Sassicaia - widely accepted as one of the world's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon wines.

After dessert, why not try Mirto, from Sardinia, which is our house liqueur, or one of the many grappas, brandies or Italian liqueurs we have!!

Orvieto Abbocato D.O.C. - £14.90

One of Italy's most picturesque cities, Abbocato is classic, traditional style for the local white wine and means 'softly sweet': attractive, grapey and nutty flavours, gentle sweetness

The colour is light straw yellow, the bouquet is pleasantly fruity, reminiscent of golden apple, the taste is fine, elegant and noble

La Cala Vermentino di Sardegna DOC - £18.50

Light straw with green tinges with an intense and complex bouquet, a light structure, fruity and mellow, harmoniously soft

 

Vernaccia di San Gimignano D.O.C.G. - £18.50

The wine is fresh and appealing with distinctive notes of meadow flowers, golden delicious apple and lemon peel. It is quite structured on the palate with soft, fruity, persistent body

Straw yellow with copper shades in colour. The bouquet is intense, fruity, fine and elegant. The palate is full, soft and characteristic

Pale straw yellow colour, delicately intense and fruity

This rare and sought after wine revives an old Piemontese tradition of partially drying the best Barbera grapes until Christmas; almost like an Amarone, it shows powerful, rich plummy fruit with a very clean, dry finish balancing the high alcohol

 

Barolo D.O.C.G - £35.00

Bersano's Barolo shows a developped, complex spicy nose and a multi-layered palate with a long, warm and tannic finish

This Cabernet Sauvignon from the Tenuta I Piani, is a contemporary legend despite limited production; aged for 18 months in barrique, this full ruby wine has a deep, herby bouquet and rich, velvety, warm flavour; outstanding

The wine is aged in small oak barrels and bears a mature and evolved character on both nose and palate, soft and harmonious

One of the best Sardinian reds in recent years, as attractive for its elegance as it is for its power and body; showing careful use of French oak

Somewhat closed on the nose in the beginning, it opens into a rich and complex bouquet. Warm and persuasive in the mouth, extremely soft, with lots of body and length

Sassicaia - £178.00

The best of the 'Super-Tuscans' - widely accepted as one of the world's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Full-bodied, deep purple in colour, combining intense notes of cassis and cedary elegance, with extraordinary power and length
